This is absolutely amazing!!!
I just found this thread tonight and spent the last 1+ hrs reading it!! You're an awesome writer.
So sorry to hear about Medium rooster
Poor bugger
Thanks for this great story! I look forward to the next chapter
The biggest little rooster stayed in the run almost the whole day. He was very sad and missed his brother. He was in a horrible mood. The Ladies were on the other side of a fence, and he couldnt get to them, which was frustrating. The littlest little rooster kept trying to snuggle with the girls, while also trying to keep the biggest little rooster from snuggling any. He had to show the littlest little rooster who was boss a few times. Mostly they just chased each other, but a few times there was some feather-fluffing chest bumping going on.
The humanguy put a bale of hay in the run, which kept most of the chickens busy for a good part of the day. Even though he was very sad, and feeling very bad, the biggest little rooster needed to put on his happy face for the others. As flock leader, he needed to keep looking for the best treats for his girls. He also had to keep breaking up fights between the girls. He guessed that because they were in a new place (even though they had roamed this area all along) that the pecking order was being challenged.
He wanted to be off by himself for a while, so he hopped out of the run. Of course, several of the girls jumped out and followed him. He almost wished that he was a little less handsome, like the littlest little rooster. Yet at the same time, he DID like the girls.
The humanlady surprised the biggest little rooster by coming home from work before it got dark. She opened the gate, and the biggest little rooster went inside the run, then sat back and watched the show.
The humanlady started by trying to get the 2 little girls who were loose. She was holding the little white one, but the little white one was squawking and kicking and flapping her wings. She managed to escape humanladys arms. So, humanlady went for the other girl, and brought her into the run, and placed her in the coop. She then put each of the others into the coop one by one. The biggest little rooster watched in amusement as the humanlady went back to the shed to retrieve the little white hen. But she came back with a different one. Wow, even the biggest little rooster didnt see THAT one jump out.
It was his turn to go into the coop, and the biggest little rooster tried real hard to put on his brave face. He hated to admit it but he was- well, he was chicken. He stood at the door and looked in. It was a little bit dark. He stepped back. He took a deep breath, reminded himself that everyone else was in there, closed his eyes, and stepped into the coop.
He had to admit it was nice. It was very spacious, with plenty of roosting space. It smelled new, unlike the stinky old smell of the shed. The roosts were wider than the ones in the shed, too. He looked up. The roosts were higher, too. The biggest little rooster, able to clear a four-foot fence with ease, was afraid to jump up on the roosts. Silly rooster!
The humanlady was in the shed getting the little white girl. The little white girl had flattened herself at the bottom of the brooder box, determined to stay. She hissed at and bit the humanlady several times. But the humanlady grabbed her up, and took her back to the new coop. The biggest little rooster was settled on the roost, watching as the humanlady crawled into the coop and placed the little white girl next to him.
This was the first night in 3 nights that they were all together. There was a big empty spot where the medium little rooster should have been. The biggest little rooster sighed. His little flock was getting smaller. His whole world seemed upside down. When the sun went down, and another day was over, the biggest little rooster was still very happy with his life. He had a good little flock, beautiful Ladies next door, good neighbors, and good humans.
Life was good.
I'm glad that the Biggest Little Rooster isn't getting to down about the Nedium Little Rooster being gone. At least he has a wonderful family to support him in his time of grief.
Oh, so sweet. Thank you LilBizzy. Would love to see some pictures of the new digs and the little girls. Not like you have anything else to do....ha ha.
I am loving every chapter and every word and the time you are taking out of a very busy life to write for us.
