a little off topic but pips, the picture you showed of the pullet is really dark, i have 3 cull pullets from the same person you got your white lines started from and she is much lighter in color, why is that? she seems more blue while yours seems more leaning toward black its obviously not black but seems dark. I got 1 each splash, black and blue, from him...only problem crocked toes and the promise that they would be just pets which they will be...but they look amazing anyway.
oh and what color of eggs are you getting from his whites? mine just started laying and its a nice almost minty green for 2 of them and a light aqua for the third, are yours more blue?
Mahonri, I am here in Phx, and I will be interested in some chicks from that pair if you would like to share when they come. If you are willing to do the bator/brooder thing, I would love some started pullets and a roo. keep me in mind as you raise some chicks!!
Congrats on your purchase!!
I live near San Antonio, TX.. I will have blue, black, splash and white Ameraucanas in my nnext hatch. My blue rooster is from Whitmore Farm.. I bought him from a gentlemen who bought a group of straight runn.. breeding and show quality stock. Trooper , our new roo is Awesome. He is ina breeding pen with a black hen (from Paul Smiths lines) and a blue pullet who I bought from a backyard breeder in north central Texas.
My white roo is from Jerry De Schmidts lines, my white hen is from Paul Smiths lines and my other white pullet is from a backyard breeder.
My next hatch from the bator is due next week, January 27th.. I also have a large hatch due on February 4th (we are running two incubators right now). The February 4th hatch will include all of the above mentioned, plus silver Ameraucanas and bantam and large fowl Araucanas.
Pictures of our breeding stock and our eggs can be seen at our website:

The color difference in the blues is why some of the breeders don't like working with them. I have found that if you breed blue to blue, that is when you will get the very light blues. I prefere the darker blue birds as I think the lacing shows up better.
Out of the three white hens from last year, one laid a khaki egg, one minty green and one more blue/green.
THE POST OFFICE CALLED AT 9:30AM and my wonderful dear wife went down and picked them up.
It took me until Noon to get away from the office.
I took them to their isolation "brooder-cage" (it's 3 X 4 X 3) , but them in tried to get them to drink and then just sat and watched them. I don't think they moved for almost an hour.
Finally the little pullet stood up, pooped and shook all of her feathers, walked forward and sat back down in the pine shavings. Eventually the roo did the same.
About 30 minutes ago they found the feeder with the grower food that has some scratch mixed in and they began to eat. WAHOO.
Let me tell you. They LOOK fabulous.
I thought the pics were great, they look WAY BETTER in person!!!
They do seem a bit smaller than I had imagined, so I'm going to keep them isolated from the rest of the flock until at least the 17th or 18th of February.
Well, I've just simply got to start building some more breeder pens. Melissa's eggs *18... 3 of each variety... should be here on Friday or Saturday.
I've still got to find a thermometer/hygrometer to put in the bator.
I imagine I'll just start with the 18 eggs of pasofinofarms and a few of our EE mutts that was bred by the China game roo.
