The Blues as a color, with some basic discription and pictures.

I recieved Lavender eggs from the man who purchase the Easter Egger with the Lavender gene here is the states. This is back in or about 2005. This breeder at the time had no intention of breeding anything but Lav Ameraucanas and Aurocanas. So when he hatched out 2 single comb males, he sent one to a lady I know out West and gave as a B-Day gift to the people who bred and sold all these "Lav ORP PROJECT" eggs we see all over the net here in the USA.
The one I hatched from this breeder is a cockerel. I took him to a Black Orp this past season.
I hatched out a Cuckoo Blue as I call it. But you guys MAY have a more accurate description of what he really is. And seeing all these neat "BLUE" birds I thought I'd share this fella's pic

so you took a full lavender roo and mated to a Black Orp and hatch that cuckoo roo?

if thats the case he can't be lavender, unless the black Orp is split for recessive lavender.. but odds of that are slim, that boy seems to be Dun based

Yes that is where this fella came from. The DUN gene is in many of my Blacks. And the one hen I used I had from a Cuckoo Wyandotte hoping the fence a year ago and bred to my top quality Black Orp hens. I figured I would use her instead of my Black hens since I really am about breeding for the standards. BUT, this Lav cock MAY have one barring gene since he too has a slight look of Cuckoo. And the Lac cock is also from my Cuckoo breeder. So that is a possibility.

Here are a few pics of the dad. As you can planly see the Easter Eggers influence in him as well in most all Lavenders here in the states. I just checked on the BYC LAVENDER ORP THREAD and you do not have to go very far to see the exact same build.
Not too sure if you can see the slight barring in him. But here are the pics I just took a few mins ago for the thread

Dun cant hide on blacks..Dun is a dominant gene and even with lots of melanizers they will look Gun Metal look, so guess what? that roo you have is a bag of genes... that's what's nice of EEs

here a Heavily melanized Dun

Nice Opals but note that I didn't post Lavender. I posted Self Blue and stated that it was sometime referred to as Lavender.
All Lavenders are Self Blue BUT not all Self Blues are Lavender there are a lot of Self Blues that are just Blue with the lacing bred out of them.
