The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

Sure would be nice if we could do that when we have enough boys. I love my drakes but 4 can be a handful.

Ok so today since it was so nice and warm out I completely filled their pool up, I haven't been filling it up deep with the cold, frozen water and the muddy run. So anyway they were all going crazy in the pool, even the Pekins because they are shallow water snobs and don't get in much unless it's full not shallow. Well one of my Pekins tried to mate with one of my babies, the black n white possible girl!!! Now she is the same size as my other females even tho "she" is only 2 months. Is that ok??? Should I seperate for now since she's so young??? Now they haven't been mating or interested in my females since they went broody that I have seen. So idk if it was just the excitement of the water or what, which might sound odd but usually my Pekins are doing their own thing all day, but decided to join in on the pool party lol

I'd say 2 months is a might young for mating. I'd keep an eye out on that one and if it happens again separate .I doubt the young one to fend off a full grown Pekin drake. Did you actually see him mate her? Could have just been the excitement and a new girl in the mix but still needs to be monitored. Which I'm sure you'll do.

Yes I saw him bc I was in the run cleaning, I don't think he was being successful tho lol I think it was the same pekin that never seems to know what he's doing lol. I'm def going to keep an eye out but wanted know just incase it happens again. I think it was just the excitement bc the Pekins really could care less about the rest right now. She wasn't trying to get away or making a fuss.

I would intervene - she's young, yet. And I know with my Runners, after a cold spell without swim time, they act like it's spring when the swim pan is full of fresh water.
