The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

side by side Broody Blue Runners, 12 days 'til hatch, 18 eggs at last count

Mother Buttless, Goldie and Tux
Beautiful ducks, now question are they or someone else still laying in their nests because if so your hatch may get so staggard your going to lose some ducklings unless you can convince one of these to stay on the rest of the eggs once the first set of ducklings begin to hatch. because mama will get up and leave the nest with ducklings at some point.

After 50+ days of sitting on her nest, crazy mama finally hatched one duckling from the second batch of loaner eggs!

Hopefully now she'll leave the nest and turn her attentions to her new foster baby, a cayuga/khaki mix. Hope rouens don't care about color!

WAY TO GO!! but why did it take her so ling to hatch out ducklings??

Here is my girl Eyebrows. We thought she was a hinnie or a mule as she looked just like our anconas when she hatched and her entire first clutch were duds, but it looks like the second time is the charm for motherhood! This mama is from a week ago. Babies already sold (except for the 2 we're keeping).
That pic makes my heart melt. It could be on a Mother's Day card!!

For some reason, her batch of eggs failed, so I "borrowed" a few from another mom, which also failed. Finally, I candled one that was about to externally pip and put it under her. Hatched within 2 days. Had to get her off that nest somehow as she wasn't going to just leave it.
