The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

I believe you are exactly right! When I checked their food this morning she did not budge whatsoever or even look at me. Same with my other female who has been her helper. Usually they make it known they are not happy I'm there. Haven't seen either one off nest this am either. Oh the suspense....

Exciting to be sure. Hopefully you'll get to see some lil heads poking out from under mom soon.

I saw one! However the only chick feed I was able to get today was medicated. I still have the adult food in the house that's too high for the babies. Will the medicated be fine for the adults till they get non medicated feed back in stock???

Dont give your ducklings medicated chick feed. They are very sensitive to the medication and it has been known to kill them in some cases. I had to learn the hard way when I accidentally killed all of mine except one a few years ago. They should be on meat bird crumbles which you can also feed to the adults.

This morning there were two Pekins that appeared to be sitting on the nest. The new girl was actually hissing at me. She didn't stay long. When she got up, she wasn't even on any eggs. She did have an indention made next to the other nest though. First girl seems to be staying on her eggs tonight. Do I count the first 24 hrs she sits as day one or should I count the past few days when she was sitting just during the day?

Thank you.

It's all I could get right now. And that only other 2 things I have is layer pellets and grower/finisher crumbles. I'm gonna check another store tomorrow but didn't want to not have anything out for them

I think it's okay to feed the med stater since the new drug won't kill them like the one they use to use in med. feed but still try to get without as soon as you can. they won't eat first 24 hrs anyway. How many have hatched?

When she sit 24 hrs that's day 1. Exciting for you and her but is she safe brooding outside? she looks like a sitting duck to me for preds.

Yeah the layer feed might be worse. Well if you can't find anything else right now and you're worried about it you could always use a cheese grater and grate up some veggies for them. My ducks and chickens love it. Mamma will also probably have them catch bugs too so they'll have plenty to eat until you can find something else you want to feed them

I was able to get Flock Raiser this am!! So far just see that one baby
I feed FR from hatch till old age so you did good.
