The Buckeye Thread

Great job! So glad to see someone who breeds their own quality birds instead of riding on the coattails of others! If anyone wants good quality stock. Shumaker Farm is the one to go to.

Thanks guys, it was a great day for Nettie's Mongrels!!! There were 14 buckeyes exhibited; 4 exhibitors.....2 from Ohio and 2 from Kentucky. I noticed a couple familiar birds that were talked up at other events but at the end of the day Syd and I took home Champion American with a Buckeye Cock and Reserve American with a Buckeye cockerel.....the cock went on to earn Champion Large Fowl honors. There were around 30 birds in the class; so it qualified the class win for APA recognition........a good day for the buckeye!!!!!

I think this is the first time the buckeye breed had ever won both class champion and reserve in the same show at an APA event!! :)

Thanks for your vote of confidence but I don't really sell that many....maybe a pair or two in the fall. I care more about producing high quality birds in lesser numbers than breeding in volume for a few extra bucks (no pun intended ;) )

I almost forgot about your bantams. I think it would be awesome for someone to make a wave or two with buckeye bantams. I would love to see them on champion row. Would it not be amazing to see them gain recognition as much as the large fowl have lately?

I'm working on that ;) .....just need a little more time

To top the day off; I come home to an incubator full of Buckeye chicks.....mostly LF but several bantams as well!!!!

Sounds like a fabulous day all the way around. You and Syd have much to be proud of.

Can't wait to see the bantams in the show coops....wouldn't it be cool to see your large fowl bucks and bantam bucks on champ row?

You have the knack for breeding. I'm looking forward to watching you and Syd continue building on what you've done.

Hey Joey, Congrats. Well done. I'll post some pics of my bantam chics. You should see how dark they are. See ya on champion row again. Love my bantams.

Thanks Sharon!! That would be great, those little guys are really cute! Nothing better than a dark buckeye ;) !!! I hope I get something to show this fall but I might need one more year?!?! I suppose that I'll find out in due time; you take care!!

I love it! A buckeye has made it not only to class champion two weeks in a row but advanced to champion large fowl!!!! These birds need to be bred as a total package and not just for heart girth. Yesterday was just further proof of it!!!!
