The Buckeye Thread

It was a small show.  And I was disappointed at the general quality of the other American birds there.  There were some nice ones in some of the other groups though.

Thank you Regin. It's nice to see the birds from other states and what each breeder is doing with their show flocks.

I have a question;
Is it appropriate to post pictures of other persons fowl, such as I did from a show?
I took the pictures but not my chicken. Since the show is sort of a public display, I thought it would be ok to share the pictures I took.

What do you think?

IMO birds are put on public display when put in an show coop. Pictures are taken. I take a lot of pictures of all kinds of birds at shows that I think are neat and also the show winners so I can share with the groups I'm in.

Regin,

These birds are on public display and therefore up for most anything. If a person is going to put their name on a show card and have a bird represent them....they better be proud of it!! I see absolutely no problems with posting pictures because it offers a perspective of how the breed should be presented; either in a positive light or a negative one. Now putting that name on it, although humorous.....will start all kinds of stink. Good or bad, I'll stand directly behind my fowl! I bred them....I fed them... and I showed them! People can take all of the pictures they want but if they are going to comment on them...they better be able to back there comments up!

Well, I've got to say that when I had narrowed my choice of breeds down to just a few. I was weighing the options and the pictures of Shumaker Buckeyes tipped the scale

I spoke to the owner of the Cockrell from WS show. He came from CM. He's still young too.

He still has room to grow. I personally wouldn't put a cockerel in the show pen younger than 10 mths. So much can change on the bird in those last two months. You also have to weigh how the bird would compete against any cock bird at a show. Is he the best bird for the job, weight, feathers, undercolor, type? If they don't have it all a cock bird will kick them. Just IMO

Picked up our chicks this afternoon. Little red Buckeye chick on the far right

Friendly Buckeye chick next to a very clever and curious sex-link.

Sleepy Buckeye, look at that little wing.

Regin, have you ordered your Buckeye chicks yet? Who are you getting them from?

Those are lovely pics, autumnhearth. Thanks for sharing!
