The Buckeye Thread

Does anyone have any pictures of 3 week old Buckeyes they could post? I was at the farm store today and they had a pen full of 3 weeks old chicks, several different varieties. There were some light red chicks with white speckled/spangles on the their feather tips, which the employee was calling Buckeyes. She said they came from Privett hatchery. I know that chicks molt out frequently as they're growing, but I don't remember mine going through a sangled phase. Have I just forgotten about that stage, or are the birds mislabeled (or perhaps just very poor quality)?

Regin, have you ordered your Buckeye chicks yet? Who are you getting them from?

Those are lovely pics, autumnhearth. Thanks for sharing!
I will finally be getting my hatching eggs this Saturday. then 21 days until chicks

I can take a pic or two of a three week old, I've got a bunch of them. Most of mine come a little speckled at that age but they lose the taht coloring within a few weeks as they mature.

I will try too, I have a couple that are 3-weeks, I think.

Thank you.  The ones I saw had similar spangles at the feather tips, but the red color was much lighter, almost orange.  But they were hatchery chicks, so that's to be expected.  I guess they weren't mislabeled.

The hatchery stock I had bought years ago were lighter almost orange and had spangles. Most hatcheries acquired their stock from the ALBC and you will probably notice they will be a lighter orange red when full grown.

I don't use them in my show breeding pens, but I do use them for eggs and enjoyment. :)
