The building of Pea Palace(Pic Heavy)

dorthal, Shipping peafowl eggs in most cases is a waste of cash.Although I proved to myself this past summer that diet changes the percentages a lot with shipped eggs. Many have less than acceptable levels of eggs that hatch.Take it from someone that has been there-done that you would be better off buying peachicks,,let the breeder assume all the risk.We have several coming 2 year olds that will be able to breed this spring that we can sell now. We also have this seasons chicks to sort thru, and sell.

Love your pens and runs as of now i have to start building me more pens. Was the netting hard to get up and if you don't mind would u tell me how you got it up on the top or how u rolled it out.On my 1st. runs we used chicken wire and it was hard. This time on my new runs i am going to use the netting like u did.Thanks.

This is exactly the person and size I got off e-bay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-HEAVY-KNO...OLYETHYLENE-NOT-NYLON-/280812565125?pt=LH_Def It came in a box measuring about 2'x1.5'x1' on size,,I first took out of the box,and unrolled it so it resembled a long tube, and since the measurements was identical for width,it didn't make any diffrence which way was which. I then used a step ladder and took this long "tube" shaped piece of netting and laid it all along one end atop the posts. If you read thru this thread,I started using 3/16"? aircraft cable between the wooden poles,I went straight both ways, then diagonal between them so there is an X shape between 4 poles,as well as a square around them. It is very hard to lose the netting between so much support,so once the netting was laying all along one end,I then used a long pole to push the netting up,and begin unrolling it across the wire.It took awhile since I already had the sight barrier and 2"x4" welded wire up seperating the pens but it was easy to push it up,and about 5' would unroll.
I went way overkill using the aircraft cable, and when I ran out used galvanized 12 gauge wire to finish with,,much easier to work with and stretch tight compared to cable.I have a friend closeby that made a framework using pcv plastic pipe, then he unrolled his net on top, then pulled this framework up,and attached to his guide wires which ran from end to end. He didn't have any posts in the middle of his big flight pen,so it was possible to pull up a section at a time,to the height he wanted and tie it off.His netting looks suspended and is a lot tighter than mine is.

Thank you so much Frenchblack cooper.for taking your time to explain that to me.Now got to get hubby to help me fix them. Thanks

Pea Palace is now stuffed with adult peas again before the temps drops to single digits next week here.Took us 2 hours to individually catch, then carry inside close to 50 peas. We did this about 2 hours after dark, much easier and less stressful on them, but makes for some crazy manuevers when the pens are a little sloppy from rain.Thang of course made his usual attempts at avoiding me,should have left him outside alone all winter.

I think about you and Thang whenever I catch one of mine and they rip my shirts, lol.

Thang is high maintenance,,I had both legs together and holding them with one hand, when the Peabrian decided to try and escape. One leg got free and I now have 4 nice toenail holes in my black jersey coat. He is a standout.
