The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Cage cleaning, since I no longer have the wire floor I have to clean the rabbit cage from time to time. alls I do is sweep it to the 6 inch wide gutter that has wire under it. I am noticing that most of the poops are already there and I suspect that is where they pee too. I found a small broom and dust pan at Dollar Tree and while I do not need a dust pan because I sweep everything into the gutter but I use the dust pan to scrape the bunny poo off of the concrete pavers. But that leaves me with a question, is there a way to disinfect the floor to prevent sore hocks? I do not know what cleaning solutions are bad for rabbits.

@drstratton congrats! 13... That's SO many! My biggest ever litter was 14+1 stillborn. So that's really getting up there!

@Compost King Most things that are safe for animals are safe for bunnies. White vinegar is probably the safest. A dilute bleach solution that you then rinse off is totally safe too. Same with good ol dish soap and a good rinse with water. Or Simple Solution/natures miracle/other "pet" cleaning solutions. Unless they're chewing on what you're washing most cleaning solutions are safe as long as you allow them to dry thoroughly and/or rinse them off.

Having trouble litter training bugs he poops whereever he is even in his sleeping space he stopped sleeping in the litter box but he poops whereever he's sleeping. Any tips or advice on litter training?

Depends on what you're looking for in a breeder, but I've always found that my local craigslist was a great place to start. I bought my new SQ NZW girl from CL for $75. Another option is to look at rabbitbreeders.us and look for your state or breed.

As for nest boxes, most people go for industry standard wood or metal ones like this;

Personally, I use extra heavy duty cardboard vegetable boxes from costco that I get for free.

Where can I get breeder rabbits?
I always get mine off of craigslist but I am not trying to breed show rabbits. If you are looking for that show quality rabbit I would go to a Rabbit show and meet people eventually you will find someone selling show quality rabbits.

The video above shows the standard type of nesting box, I have a set up with caves and tunnels where I let the females find their own spot. My way is not the best but its the closest to nature. The Nesting box allows the rabbit breeder to check on the babies and remove any dead ones. I will have to send in a camera on a stick to see the baby rabbits and if there is a problem I have to disassemble my set up to get to any dead rabbits. Maybe the female rabbit will carry them out but I doubt it.
