The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Ya most rabbits are great mother's when we put the heater in front she came and smelled our hands and stuff is was super cute

Okay that's is going to drive me nuts! But I will. Should I switch her water to a thingy? lol I can't remember the name! I do have a wire cage and I kinds stressed myself out so I put an warm pad in the front mama sure likes the pad. Are their any fruits and veggies that help during this time?
What will drive you nuts, or it does me at least, is leaving her alone and waiting a few hours before checking. Do not put a heating pad out there. Mom will chew on the wires and it can easily over heat the babies, not to mention rain. If she has enough bedding you’ll be fine. And can you send pics of her set up?

As far as food to give her, leafy greens. Especially kale or dandelions. Right now, avoid any berries, but a small piece of banana or apple to get her sugar up will most likely be appreciated. During a difficult labor I had a doe who really wanted animal crackers. It was a seriously bad case, so she got them. I would not generally recommend those though. It was an emergency and I needed her to get literally any sugar lol, definitely not your case though.

Alright I can take the pad out how do so post pictures. And I ment leaving her and the babies alone is going to drive me nuts. When can I start to handle the kits? What are the best thinks go feed her during this time

Right there! Her regular feed. I had a lot of rabbits, so I would mix a 50 lb bag of regular rabbit feed with a 25 lb of show rabbit feed for my moms and babies. Also, alfalfa hay will help boost her milk I believe. My rabbits were always spoiled, so they got carrots or whatever treats they wanted, if she wants it then trust her body. Especially any iron laden vegetables should be offered. Beet tops just sprang to mind. As far as handling, my fav mom would let me do anything, and when she wanted the baby back she would thump her foot. Another wouldn’t let me touch anything for two weeks and even then she was upset. So, if possible give them until this evening before touching them, just to make sure if mom still has more she isn’t stalling her labor. And then see what she is comfortable with. They might not want to be snuggled for a few days or until their eyes are opening, but holding should be fine if mom is like it. I’m just saying don’t like carry them around for half an hour away from their buddies. But after mom is fine with it enjoy your babies!

Okay I will also that is AMAZING. She must have really wanted animal crackers
Females will occasionally attack another rabbit’s babies, and a male will usually eat them. Horrible I know. But that is why I check that she doesn’t have any other adults in her house.

Okay is it important to see how many their are? Also this iss is her set up

That looks like she made a perfect nest. They will stay plenty warm (even without heating pad;)) you might even notice that she will draw a little hay over them at night! She looks like there’s a lot of coverage too for the big cage. If you want (like anyone wants to lol) go ahead and count them, make sure you pet mom before and after, especially her nose, so that everyone smells alike. And if she grumbles then back off lol, you don’t want to get bit, but she seems like a pretty chill rabbit.
