The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

She is and thanks for all your help
Dude, so welcome! I know what it’s like when you get your first litter and it’s so exciting but terrifying. If you have more questions feel free to ask, I know there are a bunch of people who know more about rabbits than I do on here! I rarely check byc, but if you don’t get anyone else who can answer pop over to back yard herds and tag @messybun. Congrats and God bless.

I finally have gotten the rabbits their run set up, and they're out in it now! I'll add pictures in another post in just a moment, my phone ran out of storage and is now not letting me share them 🙄 but I don't like using mobile so I'll just type out my typing post separately lol.

I used the three dog pens we had previously, and then I used metal stakes to secure the longest sides since they were wobbly. We put netting across the top for hawks, although we have good tree coverage so I'm hoping that'll deter them. I wanted to use our scrap wire pieces but the pen was too wide for those, and I liked the shape I had made so we used the netting instead. I did use two pieces of wire that fit on opposite sides of the pen as 'doors' that are attached by clips so they swing open and shut to get the rabbits in and out. We also added a few pieces of pvc lengthwise to help hold up the netting and also one of the 'doors'.

I know it's mostly dirt, but the area of our yard that is covered in weeds/grass is practically right in the middle of the yard so I liked this since it's also right next to their hutch (which isn't caught in the picture). I hope to maybe grow some grass for them or be able to throw some other safe greenery in there that my mom grows at some point but right now they just get hay.

And go figure one of the vines that was growing around their run turns out to be toxic apparently, although I cleared it from the run and after a little research I don't think it's too toxic if they should consume it--apparently it just gives mouth irritation and some rabbits may not have any symptoms at all, which eased my mind a bit.

Well that got long lol. I thought I'd share my process of how it was built in case anyone wants some inspiration! :)

Alright bunny people. How do you keep your outdoor rabbits cool? I’m thinking a cement or hobbit hole hutch? I’ve tried frozen bottles and all of that, but they all caused problems in one way or another. I think it has to be the set up, what do y’all do?

I get the darwin award today. I took their top tarp and moved it as a sun shade. Well, guess what? Its been pouring for who knows how long :hit
I’m not sure how to apologize to them, lol. But also make sure they didnt suffer too much and how to dry them. Im laid up right with a very nasty stomach and hubs just went out to put their top back.

Lol you could individually blow dry them on low, or towel dry them gently, but chances are better you'll have more luck just putting them in a dry space and letting them clean the water out of their fur themselves like a wet cat.
