The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

I've seen people buy just a box of spring mix for their buns every week. Does anyone here do that?
I'm looking a an easy way to get fresh greens every week for the foster bunny. We usually don't have a whole lot of veggies. Is there any way to order them and have it delivered weekly or something?
I buy a huge thing at Costco or Walmart weekly. I try not to give food pellets unless they’re all hay. I had a friend who fed all pellets and hay... her rabbit got stones and they say it’s from a diet of just pellets and hay. Rabbits need greens according to her vet.

Y'know, I'm not here to butt into anything or make controversy, but I've always found it really interesting people have been so adamant about giving their rabbits daily greens. I've never given my rabbits daily greens, they get them as a treat. They've lived on unlimited timothy hay and a quarter cup of pellets (for 2 rabbits) once a day for years without one issue. They are healthy and happy. I've even owned my one rabbit for 8 years, my other I've had since she was under a year old, so she's been on this diet practically her whole life. I just don't see why rabbits supposedly need greens. Is it something to do with extra nutrients found in them? For extra foliage to promote a better gut and digestive tract? I've never actually researched why.

Nothing against people who do, I've always just been curious about the topic! Perhaps your friend's rabbits were a special case? Or maybe it differs from rabbit to rabbit...

What do bunnies eat in the wild?

Greens, foliage, berries, hay... they don’t eat manmade pellets full of additives that aren’t even meant for bunnies.

Anyone I’ve ever seen like Lennon on YouTube... eats hay and salad daily. Nothing else no pellets.

My last bunny lived a very long time on hay and leafy greens. It lived past 11 years. I never had issues with it ever. The vet always told me leafy greens and hay are a must have. I have a list for herbs, veggies, and leafy greens bunnies should eat daily from the vet.

Everyone does their own thing, but I take my animal advice from our vet. They specialize in small animals, reptiles, and most domestic animals.

I pick greens everyday for my rabbits from my over grown Organic Yard. I have never treated my yard for weeds I welcome the weeds especially ones that rabbits eat. In the winter they will be reduced to eating hay because there won't be any natural greens for them and if I buy it at the store chances are I am eating it not them. I feed mine Pellets from a feed mill, $10 for a 50 pound bag at 16% Protein or $10.50 for 18% (I only bought one bag so f ar and it was 18% since 50 cents extra isn't going to hurt my feed budget more). I try to give them so many greens that they choose not to eat the pellets since the greens from the yard are free and the pellets cost me money.

I like giving mine greens. Rabbits love roses and marigolds too. I dry mine then put it in with their greens or hay.

I watch the wild rabbits and see what they eat, When I had Meat Rabbits they loved everything that the wild rabbits ate. The Rex Rabbits I have now are more picky only eating a few things so far
We have a bunch of wild bunnies here. They live the berry bushes.

Also when I weed my garden or clip leaves, I put it in a pile on the ground. The wild bunnies go mental for it. They have been here for about 6 years and they are so used to us now. You can get pretty close to them. They usually come about a foot from us. I doubt it’s the same ones for that amount of time, but definitely the same family.

I can get about that close to the ones here too. This is t he first year they infested my yard because my male cat passed away last summer and he would eat rabbits. The Cat I have now won't even kill a mouse. She will catch and play with them, never claws them, then lets them go.

My cat caught a mouse in his mouth then let it go 😂 I told him if he keeps it up I’ll put him in a box like I do the chickens (the chicks I sell)

I'm thinking maybe just use some NIC grids for the couch in the sunroom. Do ya'll think that'll work?
I think it would work, it just might be a bit of an eyesore.

I need to start giving my buns veggies, but currently don’t. They are just used as treats occasionally. I hope to start giving them spring mix.
