The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

NZ mix I think. It shouldn't eat chicken food - that can be very bad for them. They need way more fiber and the calcium in layer pellets can cause kidney failure. Can you put the food in a bunny proof feeder? Like one of the ones chickens can stick their heads into?
Sorry, not an option for me to do. I put safflower seeds out for the birds all the time. The rabbit has its own food, but this bunny is strangely more chicken than rabbit

Unfortunate but I can't change it if you won't. They eat it because it tastes like candy. Like feeding them McDonalds all day, or feeding your chickens nothing but scratch grains. The excess calcium causes granular urine and kidney damage on top of that. They're even more sensitive to calcium than roosters. It won't cause any immediate effects, but will effect their lifespan.

But if it's not a pet it's fine I guess. :idunno

Well, my bunnies and chickens are happier now 😁
We finally got them off the ground giving the chickens their space back. This makes it a little less fun for playtime though. I can no longer leave their doors open for free ranging, but I will be working on that. On the plus side, they cant just bolt when I feed them on my lunch break making me late 🤣

Bugs died last night. Idk wht happened last night when I went upstairs to give him his dinner he ate all of it and I played with him and he was super active and binkying. This morning when I went upstairs I found him dead. 😭😭💔💔
I'm so sorry to hear :hugs its so incredibly hard to lose a pet. :(

I'm not totally knowledgeable on 'quick killers' in rabbits, so maybe someone has more ideas, but the very first thing I thought of was GI stasis or block. If bad enough I know those two can happen quickly and are often deadly. Although if he was eating, I dunno if stasis would have worked that fast.

But again, I'm sorry for your loss. In a positive light, he sure did have the best owner ever! Bugs looked like he had an awesome life.
