The BYC EXPERTS can be misleading-Grumble Grumble ;)

I agree! I only comment on threads here where I am sure of what I post. If I post and am not sure, I always follow it up with stating that I may be wrong and if I am I hope someone corrects me. The people that come on here just to poo-poo on someone for having something different than what they thought, makes me mad.

While you might be correct, I notice that people like to "Jump on the Bandwagon" and repeat the opinion above their posting.

And yes they might be right, but some of the photos posted up here for inspection are really BAD. Rather than give the opinion "Yes judging by that photo you might have a chicken" you can get some pretty firm replies.

Pretty much if it is laying, it is a hen and crowing it is a rooster. Otherwise some chicks need more time to develop before people guess and certainly give it a little bit of time before you decide your roo is a roo and get rid of it.

Sometimes looking at a picture online isn't like looking at the chicken up close either. I was viewing pictures of my partridge rocks on my computer and they look nothing like what they look like up close. The pattern doesn't show up in the pictures. I have gotten better advice on byc than some chicken owners I know. They way I see it is no one can know everything there is to know. I love coming on this site.

Well yes, like said before, some things that are always helpful are key traits like leg color, and asking the OP if it appears true in reality compared to what the image seems to show. Another big thing of course is also location. . . Even with Easter Eggers, people love to jump on the wagon saying it's an EE, when a little research doesn't help. Araucanas outside the US are quite varying and different from ours.

Expert, phonetically ex (as in past tense) spurt (a little drip under pressure.) I guess we are all "ex spurts" in our own minds.

As you full well know, you will never satisfy all people. That's just human nature.

I don't really believe in the word 'expert' anyway. What does that even mean? No one.....NO ONE knows everything about ANYTHING. So, even the word 'expert' can be debated.

The thing, to me, about chickens, even ruling out all crossbreeds is that there are so many color varieties even in a single breed. It can really throw you off when you have 2 very similar breeds and especially when you are looking at a picture and not the bird itself.

Just my 2 cents.
