I love the Harry Potter books! One of my cousins and I are always playing Harry Potter Trivia, we give each other questions and the other one has to guess the answer. Everybody else says we're obsessed, they're probably right.

I'm an old retired guy, but I like to escape as much as the next person.

Two years ago I bought all seven of the books (HB with DJ) as well as Fantastic Beasts and Beedle the Bard. I read 'em all, stopping now and then to eat and sleep. I have all the DVDs and have watched them all about five times. (I have a terrible memory though, as far as remembering trivia.)

As is usually the case, the books are much better. I'm realistic about movies and the limited time available compared to the HUGE amount of stuff that can be in a book. I don't expect every detail in the tome to be seen on the screen. However, I'm disappointed in some of the choices that were made in leaving this part out and putting this part in ..... and some very important details that I think should have been in the movies versus unimportant stuff taking up time instead. The general flow of the movies should, in my opinion, give the viewer an as complete as possible representation of the text.

Here's an example: (Remember my imperfect memory is at work here) ... Dumbledor searched for and found the ring horcrux. He couldn't resist the temptation to slip it on his finger. It disfigured his hand and was going to soon take his life. I know they left that out because it was part of a long, drawn out complication with the remains of the house where he found it, and all that that entailed. It sticks in my craw that they couldn't find a better way to edit that whole thing with the remains of the house, down to a couple minutes of Dumbley finding the ring and putting it on ... and watching the sparks fly. That way anyone who hadn't read the book would have a little something in the way of an explanation of how the horcrux was found and why he asked Snape to dispatch him... but instead we got Dumbley showing his hand to Harry and saying "but that's a story for another time".

Any thoughts?

Another fan here. My husband actually dressed as the adult Harry Potter for Halloween. I knit a scarf on my loom for him and everything.

I like both the books and the movies for different reasons. I can't wait for the last movie to come out. The last one kind of left you hanging.

I've read every book and seen every movie so far! I love Harry Potter. It's such a great world to get lost in. And yes, I think that I will definately cry during the entire DH Part 2 movie...just saying.

Does it mean you're obsessed if you and your friends painted your car COMPLETELY Harry Potter-ness all over the windows when you when to see the DH movie? That was for Part 1...we're thinking about dressing up as our favorite characters for Part 2...

Sorry.....wasnt sure what you meant.
i think it was a bit weird how dumbledore put the ring on without suspecting it had a dark curse on it. Expeshilly since the ring was a horcrux not to mention the posession of marvolo gaunt. A wizard as wise as Dumbledore surely would have realised that the ring was very dangerous. JK rowling didnt explain why dumbledore put it on in detail, I think she should have had better reasons for him putting it on.
