The BYC Harry Potter Fanclub

Forgive me for posting 4 times in a row. CHICKENFUR, I want to thank you for reminding me about Harry's conversation with the deceased Dombledore just after Harry "dies". I re-read several passages and have refreshed my memory. This is the subject of my first post in this thread. I complained of the resurrection stone not being explained properly in the movie ... and the fact is ... that will happen in DH2.

Does anyone here use the HP Lexicon? It works sometimes and doesn't other times. I suppose it's not being maintained any more. Just floating out there in the internet ocean ... no captain at the helm ...

The whole theme of Harry Potter seems somewhat reminiscent of the Nazi story. Putting down muggles and wanting to rule over them, keeping only "pure blood" wizards in the magic world, etc. Important old lessons like the real power of love. That's why I love these books!

You are correct, sir, as Ed McMahon (sp) would say.

More precisely, it's the story of humans .... of human nature. How many despots in recent history can you think of that started out as heros? Hitler, Mussolini, Castro, Marcos ...... We needn't look any farther than Congress or the White House.
We're all flawed, and only a few of us are able to resist all the temptations the world gives us.... and at the top of the heap ..... Power corrupts ultimately.

Ok. I now have stepped down off my soap box. Sorry.

I enjoyed and agree with your soapbox!

(sigh) Well, I absolutely LOVE the Harry potter series (best series ever!) but, well, I'm Catholic and homeschooled so I basically live with people who HATE Harry potter, and think he came from the devil. Dumb, I know, and they ALWAYS tease me because of that and it gets really annoying because I cannot openly talk about it around them. (OR wear really awesome Harry potter apparel around them

) But I know that it's really awesome and nobody can stop me from liking it!

I know what you mean. My father-in-law was a minister. He said anything that is not of God is of the Devil. I'm sure he's right. But how far must we go to do right in God's eyes? Each one of us must listen to our own God given knowledge of right and wrong. (As depicted in cartoons as a little angel on one shoulder and a little devil on the other giving us advise.) Is that a handy excuse? Another thread for that, please. I don't think there's anything wrong with escaping for a little while into the fascinating fictional world of magic .... as long as we realize that that's what it is. And I doubt if anyone has advanced from enjoying HP to worshiping the Devil.
I could tell you some interesting stories about Catholics, but that's not in good taste, and I don't want to smear your relatives by association. Let's just say that if the original intent of Priests chanting in Latin while swinging a smoking incense burner isn't to impress the flock with mystery and magic .... then just exactly what is the purpose????
