Quote: It is basically like suet for wild birds but with a different name.I combined lard, chunky peanut butter, and various seeds, melted it in a pot, put it in zip locs and popped it in the freezer. Christmas present for the chickens.
Aw! I would love to make that--except that my poor Buttermilk is allergic to peanut butter. She got sick when I gave her a bit awhile ago--no more peanut butter for any of the girls here!
Same here... I have TWO heavy molters.... And yeah I pretty much fail at knitting too.![]()
LOL I crocheted one...but I could get it on over her head. I need to find one that ties in the back or something.
If you have followed enough patterns, hopefully you will know what I am doing.
That's how I did it.Quote: No I only knit.![]()

Quote: Not yet...I am still blind to my needles where-abouts. I would love to try it though! I'll look for them again, they're probably in my room somewhere...
Velcro is a good idea! I have some hand, too. Thanks! And here's my re-writing of it:
Begin: Chain 40. (the length of the back of your chicken)
and begin ties:
SC in second chain from hook.
* Chain 10.
SC in second chain from hook.
SC in each chain back toward original chain.
SC in next 10 stitches of original chain.
Repeat from " * " to end.
Add a second SC in last stitch of original chain.
Row 1: Chain 2.
DC in each stitch to beginning of chain.
Turn.
Row 2: Chain 2.
Skip 1 DC. DC in next DC. (decrease)
Skip 1 (another) DC. DC in each DC to end. (decrease)
Turn.
Row 3: Chain 2.
DC in each DC until there are five stitches left in the previous row.
Skip 1 DC. DC in next DC. (decrease)
Skip 1 (another) DC. DC last DC.
Turn.
Row 4: Chain 2.
DC in each DC to end.
Turn.
Row 5: Repeat Row 4.
Row 6: Repeat Row 2.
Row 7: Repeat Row 3.
Rows 8-13: Repeat Row 4. (four times)
Row 14: Chain 2.
2 DC in next DC. (increase)
2 DC in next DC. (increase)
DC to end.
Turn.
Row 15: Chain 2.
DC until you have three stitches in the previous row.
2 DC in next DC. (increase)
2 DC in next DC. (increase)
1 DC in last DC.
Turn.
Row 16 -17: Repeat Row 4.
to create ties:
* Chain 10.
SC in second chain from hook.
SC in each chain toward piece.
SC in next 10 DC.
Repeat from " * " to end.
As before, please let me know if this pattern works or how it doesn't and I'll be happy to correct my mistakes.
I was thinking about the ties and they might entice other hens to peck at the hen wearing the sweater.
It might be better to make the sweater according to the original pattern and add the ties to the front of the sweater.
An even better idea might be to add a row of DC to the end and sew velcro on each side so there are no ties at all.
