THE CHEEPS ALMOST GOT ME!!!

Pics
DH & I don't travel together anymore, because someone has to stay home to take care of the animals, but I have a dream of one day borrowing my moms motorhome & taking a family vacation with all the critters. I imagine her old, beat up RV hauling down the freeway with 5 people blasting the radio & 3 dogs hanging out the windows, leaving a trail of chicken feathers behind us. The turtle would be up on the dashboard bobbing his head with the bumps in the road, duck buckled into the passenger seat yelling, "SNACK! SNACK! SNACK!" The quail would be safely hanging from the loft bed in a tweety bird cage. Bunny hopping up & down the isle trying to find her litter box, 2 kitties snuggled up in the back window, guinea pigs inside the open fridge eating all the food, chickens perched randomly on the backs of all the furniture. :weeIt'd be great!
What a visual! It sounds like an awesome vacation. Let’s meet at the beach and bring all our critters.

I may wait a week. We leave for a 5 day vacation so it’ll have to be after that. If they have anything I absolutely want... I’ll probably give in. 2-3 is a lot less than 17!!!

I would have gotten 2 bags of feed plus 10 peeps.
People who understand! that's great.
My feed is getting low and I need to go to TSC for more- but- the feed is past the pens with heat lamps. If I get feed, I probably will come home with chicks. My order from My pet chicken is due for delivery April 4th. Someone, please, offer to go to the feed store for me. Maybe, I can synchronize the delivery with getting the feed so all the chicks will be the same age? No? Hmm. Guess I need to try to put on my big girl panties and get that feed without stopping at the pens.

They could probably just brood in my room. My husband might not even see them. Or hear them. Or smell them. :sick
I brood my chicks in the office. I have a garment box set up with a Mama Cave that they love- of course, you can hear them peep and I can't resist just sitting and watching them- and holding them to get them socialized to humans. (Justification?) Now the smell is another thing entirely. I clean out the shavings every week- as they get older, the smell gets stronger- eventually, the smell drives me to decide it is graduation day and they go outside to the baby barn- for pullets 6-8 wks on up til they are big enough to go in the coop.

They're not exactly babies, they're 7-12wk juvies. I'm hoping that getting them a little older will help avoid the 10% chance of getting-a-roo nightmare. I've got them quarantined in the little brooder inside the old coop, so I haven't got any decent pix yet, but will post some mediocre ones. They were named Watson, Molly & Irene. (This is what happens when your kids are 'Sherlocked' & you allow them to name the birds.)
I told them I cant wrap my brain around the name Irene for a bird, so we all agreed I could simply call her 'The Hen' (does anybody actually get this, or am I just way out there?):lau:gig

They're in the awkward dinosaur phase & 'The Hen' wont take her face out of the food bowl long enough to get her picture taken. They all eat A LOT. Makes me think they were starving at the feed store (*note: This is my subtle way of guilting you all into more birds... Yes. Go. Save a starving chick. ;))

I call this group The Variety Pack.

A close up of Watson. I cant wait to see her when she has all of her big girl feathers. :love
