The CHICKEN MATH Contest- Who has the worst case?

I'm cracking up at these...
lol.png

We started with 50 straight run, and out of that 48 lived. 33 were hens, and 15 were roosters. We butchered all but 1 rooster and kept the 33 hens.
About 8 were picked off by predators.
We got 10 from our neighbors.
A year after, we got 25 sexed chicks (hens) for My Pet Chicken.
For the next 5 years, we got 25-50 more. About half from 1 year were picked off by predators.
2 months later, we got 25 more from Meyers.
In the months after, we came to a grand total of around 200, getting hens and roosters from neighbors and friends.
A year and a half later, we had about 250. Some of them were killed by predators, some we butchered, some we sold, and others just disappeared.
As of now, we have around 100 hens and 10 roosters.

I have a problem... No, I don't just have a "problem", I have... drum-roll, please... A CHICKEN DISEASE!!!

Original planned amount: 2 hens

What we actually got: 12 hatching eggs that turned into 3 hens and 1 roo. These were rapidly increased to 90+, currently at 57 with 59 eggs in the bator.

Why? Because those first four were the world to me and I wasn't going to sell my babies! I also couldn't keep a roo at home, so we got ' a few more' to keep him company on the allotment

My case: extreme.

At least 27 of them have names (I can't seem to get the correct total when counting those with and without names lol)

Started out wanting 12 Barred rocks
Husband(did not do his research but said he did not like them) said no, but brought home 5 old english games. Free from friend! went to feed store and got 2 gold laced wyandottes, 2 silver laced wyandottes, and 2 black australorps. Went back to feed store the next friday and bought 3 barred rocks.

I got what I wanted! Later in June I got 3 guinea fowl chicks. Everyone is happy and free ranging in my back yard. Then in August a friend gave me a barred rock roo. My dreams of having barred babies getting closer to coming true. Lost 1 old english. 1 old english went broody outside and not knowing what to do she lasted 5 night outside then found her beautiful white feathers everywhere. Another old english goes missing shortly after leaving 2 old english left. They are very attached to the roo. In Oct. wanting to sell eggs I bought 10 ISA browns from a local gal. My hubby then brings home 12 black chickens that are tomaru long crower crossed with old english game and thai crossed with old english game. I think they all are mixed with the tomaru being that they are all black. Some have different coloring on their heads. One silver head, and 3 golden on their heads. December we got 6 baby ducks for our kids for xmas. So lets see I am at 33 hens, 1 roo, 3 guineas, and 6 khaki campbell hens. Have an order in for 6 blue laced red wyandottes, 3 or 4 black copper marans. and trying to get in touch with someone off craigslist who has a couple of chickens. If I find any for free I AM GETTING THEM!!! I have gone off the deep end!! Not sure what I rank though. I think moderate. Oh yeah, I also have 5 chicks that a broody hatched out about 3 weeks ago! So I am up 5 more!!

We wanted: 5
We have: 85
We love chickens, they are fun watch. with so many different breeds who can pick just a couple, lol
our chicken math is extreme

It took a year to grow our flock and build pens, now we need more pens. It's a never ending circle of life for us.

Original planned amount - 10, to replace the 7 we lost in a predator attack.

What we have- About 45? I stopped counting through denial....

Why? McMorray had a 25 minimum. We got 28, and all died but 2. McMurray resent the order, sent us 30. 26 survived. I was in the TSC picking up Nutri-Drench, they had chicks. Plus 6. Back in the TSC for shavings. Plus 4. In a local Feed Store and they had Americaunas. Plus 5, plus a Black Astrolaup for good measure.

Ranking, severe!

I promise I'm trying to keep away! My husband is spending $3,000 to build himself a new shed so the chickens can have his old one, LOL.

This should be fun:
Early 1993- Didn't want any chickens, ag teacher friend of my mom sends home two quads of Black Plymouth Rock Bantams and some misc birds
Total: 13 chickens

Early 1994- first birds of my own choosing two trios of Black Langshan large fowl and a some White Langshan bantams
Total: ~25

Mid 1999: hit critical mass after collecting birds and breeds (combined with poor and relaxed culling), capped about at ~250 adult breeders and at least that in juveniles and chicks.
Total: 500-600 max (I know only adults count but the number sounds so impressive!)

~2001: Cut flock to just a few breeds due to upcoming move, brought roughly 50 breeders in 5 or so breeds.
Total: ~50

2007: cut down again for another move.
Total: ~25 birds

2009: sell rest of flock due to lacking infrastructure to support birds. Keeping a smal flock of aging geese.
Total: ~7 birds

Feb 2013: In an effort to get back into poultry and support the 4H club I grew up in, buy 65 chicks of various breeds at their fundraiser auction. Lose 3 weak ones but the rest are still growing well and haven't been through first cull yet. Will be keeping one or two breeds from there and have decided to rebuild facilities to allow those in small numbers and to allow me to take on some true rare heritage breeds in the very near future.
Total: 65 birds (pair of geese, a rescued duck and the chicks)

So is that a chicken roller coaster?

I started out with a pair of Speckled Sussex, and bought an incubator to make more. Decided I liked Dominique's, went to a farm from a Craigslist ad and fell in love with some black bantam Cochins and white bantam Cochins as well. The blacks had extra toes and poofy heads, I discovered silkies. Was given a large flock of Buff Orpingtons in trade for some SS hatching eggs, traded an extra rooster for a blue frizzled Cochin rooster. Started making Sizzles. Found a flock of Giant Cochins for sale, and the rooster was a blue ribbon boy! Added those. Was given a huge cabinet incubator as a present this Christmas along with three 55 gallon barrels of feed. Bought a flock of Guineas. Found a guy who wanted to split hatches of Bobwhite quail this whole season. Traded my lone Pekin for a flock of Swedish Blue ducks and a trio of mallard call ducks. My son decided he loves White topped black polish. Hd to fulfill the minimum order so added in some Mille Fluers and Mottled Houdans.

I am now coveting my friends Turkens. And I bought 23 Chinese Goose hatching eggs last weekend. I have a flock of Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons, a flock of true bantam Ameraucanas, and a flock of Muscovy ducks growing out in my largest brooder. I need help. Four dozen Austrolorp eggs are due this weekend. And my friend owes me a trio of Swedish Flower hens from this hatch of hers I locked down tonight.
