Barbara Junior is Here!
Twelve little babies awakened from their eggs in the incubator since yesterday. There are several bantam cochins, some BLRWs and one Barbara! Mrs. Chickendad purchased some barred rock eggs from a well-known breeder a few weeks ago, and the post office apparently drop kicked them all the way from Ohio and the air cells were damaged. She is going to try again as soon as more are available.
In the meantime, the baby seems to be a female, with black on her shanks and a small white spot on her head. So Barbara Junior she shall be until she proves otherwise. Her first portrait shall be posted as soon as she is able to go to the brooder with her step-brothers and sisters.
Ten other babies have awakened and pecked spy holes in their shells so they can see what all the mad peeping is about. The older babies in the Brooder In the Other Basement Room are getting a bit crowded and noisy, so the Chickendads just open the clothes chute upstairs when they need to check on them and they can hear if there are any cries of distress, or they can holler at the babies that it is “time for bed—go to sleep!”
