Hi
frow.gif

We finally got out chicks out in the coop.
Last night was their first night, I think that every one slept
well (including me).

They love their pen and the freedom to run.

Discovering grass for the first time

Figuring out how that latter works.

One Question...could I put play sand in the pen for them to dust in??

Thanks

Nice looking lbirds. So cool to watch them discover the outdoors for the first time.

I give sand to my young birds and they love it. Haven't had any problems. Just be sure the sand is clean of any dangerous foriegn bodies. Good luck.

Thank you so much. It is so much fun to watch them take in the outdoors
for the first time. They love to taste everything. This morning one of my hens
found her first worm, the fun begins...

I have one hen that is trying to dust bath in the hard clay that we have here.
I am glad that sand is okay, it will help her efforts much.

Going to build a dust bath for mine....saw somewhere garden soil, DE and wood ash. I just need to build a fire in the fire pit to get the ash and it's already so hot out I hesitate to do it!!

Can you tell me the recipe for that? We have DE and a wood stove outside (so plenty of wood ash).

Hi Thanks,

The chicks are 4 weeks old. They got big fast, since we are in the south and the weather
is fairly warm I went ahead and put them out. They are loving it, the brooder was
getting really small, they love being able to run and play.

I put sand in their pen to dust bathe in. Now they are eating it, is that OK?

Thanks
