The chicks seems to be dying inside the egg. WHY?

I opened all the duds and there was nothing in them, no blood. They just looked like a normal egg. All the ones that were fertilzed you could see the black dots and some blood vesels. There was no way any of the duds were fertilized and the duds were also a bit old. I had to wait for my only HEN to have 16 eggs. I'll be happy if at least some survive for my first hatch. I think my next hatch I won't candle them much. Maybe on Day 7 and Day 15.

Don't feel bad, at least you have a hen. ALL of mine keep turning into roos.

I'm thinking only 2 out of my 11 new chicks are pullets. Good luck with the rest of your hatch.

Waiting a little later next time may be a good idea, I think they will be easier to see if you candle for the first time on Day 10. It is funny how patience and eggs are hard to have at the same time.
