A 25 y/o storage shed which was originally a shed for hubby's ATV was turned into a chicken pen about 2 years ago.

Unfortunately I was in another state having my beagle bred so was not present for the original work. Hoooo-Boy...were my original ideas jacked up ! Originally had a smallish outdoor coop placed into the shed and one door blocked off...BIG mistake. Realized that when I lifted the lid to check for eggs ...all the poop fell down back behind it...that was the worst mistake.

So, this year...I decided to try something totally different. I'd originally wanted a whole new coop built but could not afford the cost; and hubs and I can be a danger to ourselves and other with power tools.... and then...what to do with old shed.

So our regular home improvement guy and I took quite a bit of time to totally discuss what I NEEDED in the cop and essentially...with all the work he's done outside and inside...chickies have a brand NEW home.

Project not yet complete as builder had some other contracted jobs for next week but said he'll be back before end of month.

Then he will build and install the indoor/outdoor nest boxes and there is an area in the very back of shed which is going to be completely sectioned off for a "baby" pen with a door to their very own yard.

The house will be christened the " CHOOK CAVE "

two windows in back...plus the metal rectangle you see is a solar generated vent...opens automatically at 70 degrees and closes at 40 degrees ( one on the door plus another one on the side which is not shown ). Also in the back is an electric ventilation fan

Sorry....did not add these details earlier.

Finally got birds to go into redesigned coop tonight. Had to chase birds from the smaller coop outside and close their access door so they all went into large coop. Stubborn birds....the roosters were getting really upset with the girls for not obeying their crowing.
