Story:

I just wrote this story about my black cochin roo which I thought you guys might enjoy!

It all started on July 6, 2009, when my mom announced I was getting 6 leghorn chicks. I was really excited. Well, it didn't really turn out that well. Her friend delivered the chicks, which turned out to be 16 chicks, unsexed, however we didn't know that. I played with them, and wanted them to be tame, however they were the opposite. They grew up as 16 crazy chickens, 10 of which were roosters. They were sent away to the auction, never to be seen again. I went to another friend's how to pick up some more. I saw a beautiful black cochin in the corner, calm as could be. I said, "I want that one!" along with a few others. We traveled home and put them in the coop. I named him Sweet Pea, and he was my favorite. He was my best friend. However, one morning, "she" began crowing. No!!!! It turned out that it was a rooster, which I didn't see when I first got him because I hadn't really known that back then. I decided to tell my dad, but not my mom, because she'd make me get rid of him since we're in a suburban neighborhood. We hid it from my mom for 2 months, before we told her. I was devastated when I was told I had to get rid of him. I found him a loving home with my moms' friend's house, where there were about 20 hens, and he would be the only rooster. I transported him there and said goodbye. I visited him a few more times, and learned that one of the hens had a few eggs that she was sitting on, fertile by him. He was going to be a dad!!!!! The next day, I received some bad news. They got an offer on their house and were moving to Pennsylvania from my hometown in Southern Connecticut.... uhhhhhhh. I was extremely sad. The chicks hatched from the eggs a few days before they left. I was so sad. I haven't heard from them in about a year, however I may get her email soon. So, now he will be forever missed... he was such a great roo, and I'll never forget him. I love you Sweet Pea!
Some pics when he was still at my house:

I don't have any at this current time, I had to rehome all of them when I moved north.
