the average person knows that this here is a grenade, and will be able to make connections quicker in their head, therefor, react quicker.

it would take the average person to figure out what it is longer, because it doesn't resemble what the average joe thinks a grenade looks like. It almost looks like some sort of alcohol flask (note, when a grenade is thrown, the pin and handle running down the side would be gone)
They both look like explosive eggs that came out of some demented chicken.

And plus, if a person ends up fighting on a battlefield, they would at very least know how to recognize a grenade, French or not.
i agree with that, the Germans/Italians knew what kind of grenades their enemies had, but you're just a anthropomorphic cat
