Adorable, I love the rock too! Ideas, thicken the tail and add ear holes. This pic I found on google images has good examples of both those things.

I do! I get reference photos of what I'm looking for, and put them in the corner of my photoshop document, so I can look at them. I start each drawing with a rough sketch (in a bright color) of basic shapes to get the proportions right. On a new layer, in a different bright color, I draw where I want the real lineart to go, and on a third layer, I draw in the real lineart in black. Then I put the layer for the color underneath the lineart layer, and color it in. After that I do any cleaning/changes that I want to make, then I'm all done.
