"Okay. Anything else I should know about acting like a human?" Alana asked. "Or is that about it?"
"refer to the gifted as things like 'mosters' 'forest scum' 'cursed beings', things like that." Ash said.
"B-but we're not monsters or forest scum!" Alana exclaimed, lip quivering
"that's what the humans call us. so that's what we have to call ourselves if we want to blend into the humans." Ash said, doing his best to hide the note of bitterness towards the humans in his voice.
Alana sighed. "Alright. How long do we have to stay with them?" She asked
"however long it takes to earn their trust." Ash replied. "might even be years..."
"It's not too late to turn back you know. If you don't want to, I can bring you back."
Alana shook her head. "No. Let's do this." Her voice was full of determination
Ash reached up and patted her on the head, then continued walking.
"Should we have different names? I used to live in the village when I was really young, so they might recognize my name and try to kill me." Alana said
