The Differences Between Mallard-Derived Ducks and Muscovies

Mine would roost on the roof if I let them .Silly birds. And the ones that use to be down along the river would roost in the trees. My females roost along side the chickens highest roost is about 4'. My drake sleeps on the floor in the shavings.
Most drakes are too heavy to get themselves anywhere but the floor, aren't they? :)

Most of my mature ones are, but I think the wild ones are very athletic.
They would have to be or else they would have gone extinct by now based on the males I've had. It's refreshing to have a poultry species where the females can't be harassed constantly by the males. The males can only run so far before plopping down. My females seem to control breeding, as far as when and how much. I like that.

Do any of your boys fly? Seems that my boys that are in the 10-pound range can fly short distances, but anything larger doesn't even try.

I've never seen one fly, mine are always big boys. I don't even think I've seen one fly when younger either. I've only had a total of 6 drakes that I kept long term, and they do all live long lives, so I haven't had many to judge them by.

I've seen my drake on the lower roost about 2' but he mainly sleep in his own bedroom it doesn't have a door but he likes his privacy. lol and he has never tried to get his big Butt off the ground. Way to lazy to even try.
