Look what I got this weekend. I'm hoping it will be a safe place for ducklings and goslings this summer. It will be retrofitted with a ramp for the small ones to access it.

Cool! I've been looking for something similar for my in-law's pond (they have a lot of Muscovies) but so far, they have been roosting and/or going to the coop at night & they've not lost any in the last year!

But that's a cool design. What kind of ducks to you have?

The ducks that I have are domestic and live in an enclosed area because of coyotes and raccoons. They only come out under supervision. The shelter on the pond is for the wildfowl. Occasionally I have mallard and wood duck ducklings as well as goslings hatch out on that pond. Also, come fall, I will release any wild ducks that I have rehabbed. Last year I witnessed a coyote destroy a family of Canada Geese and it broke my heart.

I just had a fox kill my "Lady Di" a few weeks back...she was a beautiful Pekin minding her own business; sitting on eggs....

I love your duck platform....another idea to show hubby...(smiling)

You have any Turtle problems? WE have a pond but its loaded with turtles I get out there and shoot them on occasion but I get a visit from the Sheriff when I do. Its not illegal as I live in a rural area but more and more people from the city have moved in and you know city folks when it comes to shooting.
First thing they do is stick their nose into it and call the police.

Catfish,

Why would you shoot the turtles? What kind of a problem could they cause you? They sit on logs and sun themselfs. They eat the fish that are dead mostly bugs or greens. They do not make any loud sounds. They do not a messes. And they do not reproduce until they are 18 years old. A long time before new babies are around. I don't understand why you would want to do this.

Thank you. I have instructed all members of the family that they are to rush to get a camera the first time there is a visitor to the "inn". Can't wait!

Now that is fantastic!! I want to get ducks, but it'd require making a pond and that little 'skivvy' is so adorable. I totally want it.

Birdgardengal maybe Catfish is eating the turtles. They make good soup... if they're big alligator snappers like in my grandfather's lake, they get as big as a mac truck tire and they're NASTY. I've shot them too.
