The Duck Thread

Is it normal for drakes to become "aggressive"? My drake used to be the sweetest but now he chases people around and bites their feet... Which I wouldn't mind all that much except I don't like to wear shoes so now I have bruises on my feet.. Is he doing this out of protective instincts or is he trying to play? He doesn't always do it, it's more random.

It is spring time in his mind and he is only showing his dominance ...

I only have one duck I can smooch. And that's only because he's only been here for three days and he's in quarantine on the deck. I may never let him go... I like having a duck I can scoop and smush!!!

Lol! I can do it too all three of my ducks, but my girls aren't very happy when I do. My drake usually doesn't mind (He's a mamas boy) but spring is in the air so he has to show of... Oh brother

If he is just coming into maturity my guess is he`s feeling. . . amorous and his attentions are misdirected at your feet. Does he have hens or is he an "only child"?

He is only 10 months, and yes he has two hens. They have a bit of a pecking order of their own though.. It's called if he starts getting on their nerves they peck at him and he waddles off xD

I have a rather large flock, mostly females, only 4 boys. The two newest boys last year, very quickly learned that my girls don't take no crap! The first time one of them got out of hand, that particular lady spent the better part of the day pulling out his tail feathers!! I only have one female that's super tiny and she's on the deck getting to know the new guy. She's already taught him to show respect. I'll release them into the introduction pen together and then later into the rest of the flock, together. By that time the pond will be open and they'll have almost an acre to avoid each other...
