The Duck Thread

They're just the best. My old Pekin was so sassy and bold. She would talk back to us whenever we spoke, and she was sooooo loud lol. But I loved it. She was the funniest, always giving me a good chuckle.

I know what you mean. I have a super sassy pekin his name is Albert. Lol My super spoiled drake thinks he can do what he wants when he wants and how he wants. And don't try saying otherwise because he will tell you just how wrong you are.

Advice needed! We are on day 26 of incubation. We candled the eggs by light last week and could see active movement in all of the remaining eggs. 2 days ago, we even saw 2 rocking back and forth slightly in the incubator. But nothing since then. There have been no pips that we can see. Some of the eggs now have clear markings either where the air sac is or along the side. They kind of look like beak marks. This is our first time hatching duck eggs. Any advice/help is appreciated.

Hey guys, me again. So i ended up getting 2 runner ducklings and a rouen, which i am happy with. But thats not why Im here. My dads friend has a charter boat... anyway long story short, a female made her nest on the boat and since the man will be using it soon, we knew that the mom would abandon her nest and i was somewhat forced to inherit the eggs. So now i have 10 mallard eggs in my hova. Dont bother telling me i shouldnt have, i didnt want to upset them, but i didnt have much choice. I cant believe this happened to me right after i bought ducklings hahah

Are they in a incubator or under a hen?

Very excited to say I might be rescuing seven female ducks, hopefully. They are quite far from where I live but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. How would I go about introducing them to my two boys, if all goes to plan?
Congratulations and good for you to rescue. Boys are gonna be boys so even if you keep them separated at first they will assault the girls as soon as they can. I would still suggest keeping them separate at first especially so you can make sure there is nothing wrong with the girls healthwise. Put them in separate pens so they can see each other for about a week. If the girls are smaller, wait until they grow some before putting them together.

The babies are coming! I would imagine we should get them tomorrow unless the post office calls yet today. SO excited!
YAY!

it usually takes 28 days for ducks also make sure the shells are moist because dry eggs are very bad news. Also keep in mind it is a ton of work to get out of those eggs so it will take a good amount of time because they will stop to rest. Also they are probably just getting into position for pipping.
X2 and welcome. Have you candled to see if you have any internal pips?

Chick and duckling update: Below is how the brooder looked on Saturday before we put them outside. We had to put them out because all the dust they kicked up started getting my asthma going pretty bad.

This is Eggos. I'm pretty sure she is a Pekin, despitetc being in a tub full of runners at the feed store. And I'm fairly positive she is female, so yay, I have a Pekin again

This is the other duckling, also female. She is fawn/white runner for sure.

Broken wing chick finally getting his feathers. He's pretty late in development compared to the others.

This is Gobbles, the one chicken I really like. She's so incredibly nice and calm.I don't care much for chickens, but I like her.

I'm starting to be able to tell the cockerels from the pullets. This barred is looking very male-ish
sooo CUTE! YAY for broken wing, what a survivor!

I have been keeping humidity at 65-85% percent. We did candle some of them again and did not see any movement in any of te eggs. Did water candling and none of them sank or floated too high.

More of the eggs have those clear marks now so hopefully it is from the ducklings moving around and getting ready.
