The Duck Thread

I have a feeling my Mallard is getting ready to have some babies. Not sure when to expect them, or even if they will hatch. I don't even know how many she laid, haha. She's hiding, and we can't find where she is, or where her nest is. We just know that she's going under the shed. We just can't see her.

We'll if it's getting close you'll probably hear them before you see them, she'll stay on the nest till she is sure all eggs that are going to hatch will hatch. Then she'll bring them out for their debut

Oh, that's fine. :) I'll start listening in a few weeks, though. How long, generally, does it take for eggs to hatch if mom hatches them instead of an incubator? Still about 28 days?

EDIT:
Also, I already posted a thread, but I'm going to ask here, too. She's acting... odd. When she's not under the shed, and she's with the rest of the flock, she quacks a lot, and spends a ton of time grooming(which I imagine would be normal, considering she spends so much time in the dirt and leaves). She has a "squished" appearance, like she's scrunching her body up. It's not alarming behavior, I don't think, just abnormal.

Made the muscovies a nest and put two chicken eggs in their so that they know where to lay eggs. :) I only get to keep them for a week before we take them out to cabin. :(
