The Duck Thread

Thanks guys! You have so many ducklings!! My yard will look like that in a week or two! And the snowy mallards (Winter and Storm) are a handful lol. Picking fights with my Bantams lol. And its 330 am just got home from work and checked everything out. The Mallard egg is hatching!! How long does it take after they start cracking egg??!!!????!!!! I can't believe I have babies hatching here. Its so much cooler then ordering them! I know its not a duck but this is my very first hatched baby. She showed up yesterday and might be a frizzle spangled bantam. We named her Uno because I'm pretty sure she's the only one I'm getting right now (tried to move mom and it didnt work well )

Nice! Ducklings really love taking their time, it can take anywhere from twelve to 24+ hours for them to decide to come out.

That chick is adorable.

So still no duckling. Is there a point where you help? Dont want to loose her. Had to rely on my family to keep me updated. Just want to get home and see for myself.

Well I just got home and checked. The duckling made it out but it was dead when I got down there. Im not sure what happened but it really sucks. Would have been cool to have our lost Mallards baby. Ugh. Not looking forward to the morning. I don't want to post pics of it but is it normal to have what looked like a yolk sac on its butt? Just trying to figure out if it was the broodies fault or not. Its her first hatch and I'm not sure if it normally goes well. So sad right now. Pretty sure my family didnt check like I asked and I don't want them to feel guilty.

Yolk sac hanging out usually means it came out too early and wasn't ready.
