The Duck Thread

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here.

I have a Pekin duck and KC who are laying eggs ... well they both TRY to lay eggs. The KC lays an a egg religiously in the duck house and it waiting for me each morning. Not always in a place I would prefer but still each morning. The Pekin sometimes has an egg but not always. She does sometimes lay an egg later in a little spot between the feed box and a box containing straw. I saw her this morning trying to get into her spot and here came three of my younger ducks (almost to laying age) rush over to the "laying area" and poor Aflac had to leave. I think this happened more than once and there is no egg.
Is this going to be harmful to her? How do you think I can keep the other ducks from rushing into her spot?

If Aflac is being chased away from "her" laying spot you can almost guess that she is finding another place to lay. To they free range at all? If so you might want to carefully check for eggs in their range. I have ducks that do this and even rut about in mud and bury their eggs there so that I can not find them. If a duck has an egg to lay it will do so one way or another. Some of my Cayugas will just drop an egg as they run out to their range in the a.m.

No, but I'm glad BYC steped in quick to remove!! they must be playing or upset with BYC? No one that loves pet's or helping others would do that.. , but whoever did it wanted to make us both look bad & for what ever reason, I have no idea?? God only knows these thing's...
I apologize for ever blaming that on you. You are very correct! :) whoever did do this wanted to just mess around with people on this site. Sorry for troubles! :) on the other hand I have 2 welsh harlequin and two Cayuga ducks arriving tomorrow! :)

When Aflac tries to go in "her" spot, here rushes the little Blue Runner, a Cayuga and the WH drake. I thought maybe the Runner (who is almost to laying age) was trying to figure out what it is all about. Do you think leaving them in the duck house a bit longer would help? I have made a couple egg hunts in the duck areas. I'll have to check a bit more dilligently. I did check in the small pool but didn't find anything in it.
Yes, they do have free range and will have even more once my hubby gets the gate between the duck areas and back yard.

They could be trying to figure things out or just trying to be a part of what is going on. I have a couple of Cayuga females that have "midwifes" join them when they lay and have a Drake standing guard.
