I have a question. My ducks run free all day but they have a fenced in area with a pool and their "house" well around the fence on the outside the grass is getting tall so I was wondering if it was safe to spray them with round up? My ducks keep the inside of the fenced in area pretty much grass free do I don't have to worry about the outside

Nope. No Roundup anywhere near where the ducks may ever be.

If you want to look into it further, although the people who make money from Roundup assert that it is safe, there have been studies showing it to have a number of bad health effects on people and animals. Either grab a sickle or a scythe and trim the grass, or pour some hot water on the grass to kill it.

I forgot to ask - what is the concern about the grass? Appearance? Predators?

Roundup is soooooo not safe! If you have weeds, you might want to consider salting the roots, or try boiling water like Amiga said. Or just let the ducks go to town on it

No round up anywhere near where a duck could possibly be. Don't forget about run off when it rains too. Just bad all the way around to use round up or any chemicals on grass anyway. Mow, use a weed eater, hand cut, pull or any of the other ideas offered by the other posters.

No chemicals of any kind around my birds...especially a defoliant like that. We don't even allow that stuff on our property. Besides not being as effective as claimed (it is effective just not as) there are new studies that have some very disturbing results. There are a number of "safe" things you can do many of which have been mentioned. One thing we use here is plain white vinegar.

In the bator: 1 rescued egg from community nest that momma attacked(sibling to crushed egg), 5 mystery eggs set 7/5, 3 store bought on day 14.
In nests: peep has 16 with 1 bad one, another nest from the momma that hides with 19 eggs(not sitting yet, although she's still on it today, so maybe day 1 tomorrow.
I just did my rounds and big mommas nest is destroyed. Only egg pieces remain.

All eggs for the rest of the season will be eaten! Unless big momma tries again. If she doesn't, I'll give her the store bought egg babies.
Short story:
Moved in this house. Peep dumped in pond. Neighbors give me 2 pekins for company. Big momma and a male. Male killed by fox.
Fast forward 1 year
Chatting with neighbors. Tell them about my store bought eggs. They laugh. Turns out the eggs I bought are from their hobby farm!! The eggs are from big mommas sister! ( dad is saxony)
