The Duck Thread

LOL...can't wait to see them.

Now just so I'm clear, since I certainly don't want to miss out...

There will be a list of items/photos needed and this list will be posted someplace on August 30th. Then we have until midnight Sept. 1st to submit the pics of items listed (each item photographed with a feathered participant), right?
Yup! The hunt list will be posted on Aug 30th in my FowlOween gallery here on BYC, as well as on Sew Sammi's FB page & website, and Feathered Fashions' FB page & website. Hopefully it will be quick and easy to find =)

You don't have to be the first to submit, each photo item on the list will be worth a certain amount of points. At the end we will add up each persons points and whoever has the most points will win.

There's actually a typo! So glad you caught that! I'll fix it right now - We've had 4 people proof read these things and we still missed it LOL
You actually have a whole week to turn in your photos. Gives you a chance to do a little planning and make sure the weather cooperates haha

Even better! I was thinking...looking at the calendar that it wasn't a lot of time to be creative.

Thanks, Sam!

Well, something raided my pekin's nest :( She was so close to hatching, too. I found one duckling obviously too young to hatch dead with its yolk sac unabsorbed and the crushed egg it came out of, and nothing else in the nest. All the other eggs are gone without a trace. The pekin is still sitting, poor thing, so I'm going to order her some ducklings. They won't arrive until the end of next week, unfortunately, so I hope she keeps sitting. If not, I'll be giving them to one of my broody hens to raise. I feel bad for her though, she was doing so well.

On a lighter note, I filled up a big snapset pool for the waterfowl today! They love it. Lacie, my roman tufted goose, took to it right away and figured out how to stand on the temporary cinder blocks I put to help them all get in until I get a ramp built. She jumped right in and had a blast. One of my juvenile American buffs just flew up over the side and in, lol. She won't be able to do that once she gets older and fills out. The ducks haven't gotten in yet, but I'm sure they'll figure out the cinder blocks before I get the ramp built tomorrow.

OldMissionChick, i don't have my computer right now...so I cannot send you the link, but Haunted55 found that if you

Soak the foot well
Put a few drops of clear - clear, not brown - iodine on the bumble
Wait several days
Soak the foot well again

The dark spot may come loose and pull the kernel out with it. If it does not easily loosen the first time, repeat the clear iodine, wait and try again.

Thank you. I did buy some colorless iodine today (lost it between the check out & home) but DH made a trip to town for more. How long should I soak it for? I have been doing about 10 min (or until he gets too restless away from his flock) in warm Epsom salt water, making sure he doesn't drink any, at least twice a day. He seems to be limping less and can now see a tiny black spot a little bigger than a pin head. Before asking DH to pick up more iodine I put some blue kote on it.

I posted this one of Wobbles in the Muscovy thread but just in case you guys don't frequent that post I wanted to share him/her here too!
So beautiful! Love those eyes!

@Sill dragged me into a adventure today. We just got a car full of free water letuce. . Our duck's will have to eat their way to the water .
That was an adventure! Thanks for going with me!

I was amazed at the size of the water lettuce, didn't know it got so big. All my critters will be getting all they can eat water lettuce for a while.
