Thank you Miss Lydia
I got some of the dried meal worms today and offered a few just on the ground... o m g they went nuts. I will try that again tonight to see if I have any better luck getting them into the house.
This morning I put out a couple of pieces of watermelon rinds leftover from last night. I had them cut into triangular pieces (quartered a small watermelon, then cut each quarter in half) and laid them out by their water and feed before I let them out of the coop. Well, apparently triangular pieces of watermelon that still have some red flesh on them look a lot like predatory mouths coming out of the ground, lol. They gave them a VERY wide berth for most of the day, until finally the one that seems to be a little braver than the others (always the first one to try anything) came just close enough that s/he could just stretch her head over and take a cautious nibble. It took a while for the others to realize she hadn't been eaten and in fact was chowing down as fast as she could, and then they were all crowding around to get some.
They have taken to coming over to the fence and peeping at me as if to ask for treats every once in a while through the day. How can I resist those bright little inquisitive eyes?
