In my opinion, the KCs *really* complicate things when you start looking at mixed offspring!! In terms of how the genes start showing up in the offspring (light, dark, dusky, pastel, penciled, etc etc etc), it just makes my head spin! But I love the mixes, they are all super pretty IMO.

ilovemyduckies I see you holding one of the duckling how did the mom let you pick it up? my one female hatched one during the summer(unfortunately it didnt make it but) she would not let me get near it! and all I wanted to do was hold it! I dont breed mine they are just my pets and so happened one hatched I dont no if its bc they (I got 4 Swedish blues) dont let me really touch them could that be why?

Nope Mama ducks are just being protective which is natural. When my ducks hatch out ducklings I don't hold them although I would love to but it scares them and upsets mom too much so I just admire them from a distance as long as they look healthy and are thriving. Sorry your lil one didn't make it.

Just an update on the situation with my pen being split. So far the wood ducks are doing great not having the runners bully them!

They seem to never leave their pool. The runners where a little unhappy the first day ut have gotten adjusted to the new plan. Anyways thats all for now.

Yeah I ended up spending two days out back all day watching it to make sure it was ok because she wouldn't let me near it and it was fine those two days I got it food and a smaller water dish and it was eating and drinking ok went out the third day all my ducks came out but no baby I looked all over the yard in the water dish could not find it I looked under their house and there it was.... it was sad I still don't no what happened all I can think of its that they squashed it or suffocated it but all the other ducks were gone with it they all protected it and looked after it I was afraid about my male bc at that time he was a little aggressive but he was fine so I don't no
