The Duck Thread

When can ducklings start eating veggies? Also I was wondering what I can put in their water, they are swimming and going under looking for food. They are 1 week old now.

Once they have access to grit, you can start giving them vegetables. You can float shredded greens in the water for them. I'm pretty sure plain raisins (not too many!) Would be a pretty big hit in the water.

Do ducks need grass and or dirt for their run? We are trying to figure out our coop and duck house as we are hoping to move our four ducks and six chickens outside this week. I have decided to keep them separate but they will free range together in my yard during the day. I think I may use my 12x12 dog kennel with a cement pad for my ducks if they don't need dirt or grass. Does anyone have any ideas?

They do need dirt, the dirt helps there digestive system, and the grass is so they get there greens..

Silkies are aliens from another planet. Be sure to where your tin foil hat when you're around them. They can read and control you mind. My cat told me.

I have a female ancona who is laying eggs, only problem is she laying them on the porch.
So is there a small house she would like better to lay in than the high traffic porch?

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
HUMM. I have a momma call who decided to lay in the nesting box, GOOD GIRL, HOWEVER, when she left to go get a bite to eat or swim, the chickens would take over her nest and lay for her. Well they didn't want to get off the eggs when she got back. I MOVED HER IN FOUR DIFFERENT PLACES, guess where she is today with her three babies. IN THAT NESTING BOX, she was NOT happy in the places that I choose for her. No matter where I put her eggs she went right back to the original nest box. Now some ducks have attitudes and that is if you move them, they will stop laying all together. so your taken a risk either way you go.
