The Duck Thread

Are ducklings as dusty as chicks?
No, since they don't scratch around for things they don't generate as much dust. However, they are wet, their brooder will be wet, the floor around it will be wet, everything will be wet. Just kidding. If us use something easily removed and reused (like old towels) for bedding while they are in the brooder you will have an easier time of it. Also, there are some really good examples here on BYC of "drip" treys for their water that catch their splashes and keep it off the bedding.

How do you mean? Are chicks dusty? My ducklings are usually just fluffy, unless they've been playing in their water. Then they're just wet, lol.

Lol... Chicks are very dusty... I had chicks (2 batches ) inside for 4 months, the room looked like it had been abandoned for 20 years... Very dusty... And I did clean and dust several times

Perfect, thanks... Was just thinking of moving an air filter into my brooding room to cut down on the dust...

I had a ton of dust in my spare room when I moved my gals out at 6 weeks. I think it was just from putting shavings into their brooder. It was terrible!

Ah, I see. Nope, no dust with ducklings, just wet bedding, lol. I have a shallow pan covered in shavings underneath their waterer to catch most of their mess and keep the rest of the bedding dry. It works really well.
