The Duck Thread

Okay, first question I've ever been kind of embarrassed to ask, here it goes...

Someday when my duckling(s) lay eggs, how do I know if there's a baby inside or if it's an egg I can eat? And...what do I do if I don't want any babies?

You must have a male to fertilize the eggs. They are just eggs that you eat till they are incubated either by a hen or in an incubator. Fertilized eggs look and taste the same as any other egg :)

@needlessjunk and @flowerchild

Thanks very much! That's a relief. So when I start seeing eggs I'll just bring them inside right away.

Wish me luck...I'll be introducing some treats this weekend and hope to get the babies comfortable walking on ramps. Should help that they'll need to climb the ramp to get to their bigger/new pool.

I don't know if it's normal for that age, but it is normal behavior for a Drake while mating.

I wasn't sure if it is too early or not. Will they do that with other drakes or just the hens? We have 8 total and only 1 has a curled feather. Not 100% sure on the gender of the other 7. No other curls, yet, and a couple of them sometimes quack like a frog then honk like a goose.

Not sure if it's too early or not. and I would assume if he does it with the other drakes it could be a form of showing dominance

wobbly legged ducky

hi not sure if I should be worried or not but one of my 4 week old ducklings seems to be having issues with his legs wobbling a little bit.just his legs not his body, I noticed this about 2 weeks ago. I took him inside to keep a closer eye on him, making sure he wasn't cold or sick or anything else. He acts fine other than the wobbly legs. he walks.around the yard with no problem, but when he's standing still they shake and it sort of seems like he can't stand in one place for a very long time before having to lie down. thought it could be due to lack of niacin but I've been giving all my ducks. is it possible I'm using the wrong kind? I don't know if any of you have seen my other threads but its my cuddle duck grey feather that's having the issue. any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

Niacin has to be plain cannot be time released or flush free at 4 weeks they can have at least 400 meg daily.
