The Duck Thread

Here's a question that I've never seen asked. I have different blankets and towels that go in my duck coop, I wash them in my washer and hang them out to dry. Since then, I've been taking my clothes to my family's to wash. Do u think it is safe to use my washing machine for our clothes still since I've been washing the towels and blankets with duck poop on them in it? My husband thinks we will get duck diseases...lol...I think if I run bleach through it first then it should be fine. Anyone???
If they are really gross I will run an empty rinse cycle. Or run a wash with old towels and rags. If they weren't all that dirty to begin with I just wash like normal. My reasoning is that if all the duck poop and whatnot is out of the towels then it's not in the washer either otherwise my towels would not of came out clean, if that makes sense.

I used a couple small towels that I soaked in my laundry sink first to get off the major poo, then washed them like normal. I did have a couple that I threw away because they got too nasty lol

He seems to be doing good. His wing is healed and no more episodes. I had them outside yesterday evening for the first time. They seemed so content and peaceful. They had their favorite dinner of whole grain rice and mealworms! Happy happy happy! Thanks for asking! I was sucking up to them BC no ones home today so they have to stay inside in their pen
Oh, Yay and you're welcome. After hearing a beloved duck has problems on here, I always feel bad. But I am thrilled to hear that JoJo's doing better with no episodes. Not to sound gross and I don't eat worms but that meal you fed them sounds kinda good.

Lol, my husband complains about how much poop mess 2 make I don't think he could handle 6. My toddler chases them around outside and if she even touches anything of theirs, he comes running with antibacterial soap and sanitizer! Its driving me crazy! He acts like she is going to get the plague from my ducks... But its not causing a divorce so I guess it's OK.,.lol...
That is so funny.

So far JoJo has been great. Him and Charlie were outside with my 17 month old lil girl (actual human child) lol playing in their own baby pool while I squirted them and my daughter with the hose and the three of them chased each other. It was a Kodak moment, **** my broken camera. After Ryleigh's diaper came off and I was done letting her be a jungle child they came inside. And JoJo and Charlie are in their freshly cleaned pen and I just gave them watermelon and raspberries cut up with Brewer's yeast on top. So far so good... Thanks for all the great advice everyone!!!

Eeeee, that's great!!

Thanks. I think Tiggy is very beautiful. I was hoping she was a she, but I believe he's a he lol. No quacking from this one. But he's quiet overall. Not even alot of raspy peeping either. Juice and Opie are definitely female. Found their quacks early. I also assume Chibs is male, but he has started to get speckles on his bill, which I believe I read was indicative of female?
You are so welcome. If Tiggy is a male and you've got 2 girls for sure and potentially Chibs is a female, will that be a problem with dynamics? As for the bill on Chibs getting speckled, I read that too somewhere about it being a female thing after my friend John's female pekin started developing spots on her bill. In a matter of months it went from no spots to tons of them. But she is a darling and precious duck with a big soft body and puffy cheeks.

From what I've read, I think 3 females and 1 male would be better than 2 and 2. You know, the males need more "lovin" than the females do, so 2 boys would wear 2 girls out. 3 females have a better chance with just one male. Right? Guess I'm going to have to wait and see if either of my "quiet-er" ones actually start talking more.

I hope it's 1 to 3. Those males are relentless. So then the wait for the most part is Chibs. Is Tiggy quite a bit smaller than Opie and Juice?

Actually they are all 4 about the same size. I was looking at that yesterday, hoping for some clues! They are not making this easy on me! lol
