The Duck Thread

OK so here's My prediction on your little girl in the cup.  Her belly button is going to completely close up, however, she is going to continue to have that bubble hanging for a while.  The closed up belly button will adventually cut off ALL circulation to the bubble and it will be totally useless.. Yes it will fall off but it will take some time... Once it does close up, she can come out of the cup because it's not going to do anything, even if it pops it's not going to hurt her because the belly button has completely blocked it.  Its not going to be a pretty site for a while....

Think of it like a rubber band, This is going to be a HORRIBLE scenerio but just to give you an idea of what might happen.

Dog owners and even horse owners, will take a rubber band and wrap it as tight as they can around a dogs tail so that the tail will fall off and they will be tailless. Horse owners will do the same thing to horse so they can no longer be used for breeding that is Male/stud Horses.. lol  I know I KNOW, I warned you this was going to be a horrible scenerio...

So the belly button is bascially going to do the same thing, It will close up blocking that bubble from entering inside her and turn black and fall off.

This is actually not a bad thing, because like I said earlier she is opened up to a WHOLE bunch of infections, now if that is or has any type of infection on it, bacteria etc.  It will not enter her body and cause another issue...

Of course, we did not want this to occur but from that pic, it looks like she's rolling the dice not us..  So will let her do her thing...

She's so impatient and stubborn.  Yes definitely a girl. HAHAHAHHAHAHA, her and I have something in common.  LOL
After working with a pit bull rescue for years, I'm very familiar with banding. Any special instructions for Cocktail?
Lacrystol, thank you for always trying to help and for sharing your knowledge. Win or lose, it's lessons learned.

I feel horrible. I found a duck egg in a lake, I picked it up and took it home. I candled it, I never have been around duck eggs at all.(Well I have but not fertile ones..) there was was a white dot which I thought was a water bubble. I figured it wasn't good so I..cracked it open.. I realized what I thought was a water bubble was really a white dot which I am pretty sure means it's fertile. I wish I could have done some research!!! So mad at myself..at least I will know better next time..it may not have been viable anyways due to it being in the lake..I still feel bad though..

Also, I have hatched quail eggs but the quail embryos were much more mature.
well keep this in mind, you can't tell a fertiled egg by candling it UNLESS, you have already started the process. Which means incubating.. The white thing that you saw could probably be it's chalaza, which I have seen in some of my eggs and it does roll around.. so technically you would not know if it was fertiled unless you opened it up and saw the bulls eye or wait 7 days to see if there's any development..

So don't be mad at yourself...

Okay, I've been following along, but I'm not a hatcher. If she closes up (?) with that still outside, she'll be okay, right? It will scab & then fall off?
She should be yes, if you look closely in the second pic, the one before the cup spa, you can see the closing up line. I'll have to zoom in and show you what I mean... it looks as though there's an indent, kind of like someone put a piece of string around it and is cutting it off...
