The Duck Thread

I would love to have more geese. My permits don't allow it though. I also don't want to worry about space. I want everyone to have plenty of room. No overcrowding. I think everyone is healthier and happier when they have room to spread their wing, so to speak!

I was thinking maybe the permits would have constraints. Yes, everyone needs their space. Heck, I've been worrying about my silly ducks. They have 2 acres, but they stay within 50 feet of their coop all the time. Maybe they'll explore more as they get older.

My ducks stay close to the feed bowls!!!! The permits have a LOT of restrictions, but, I get professional help with the geese and get to keep them!!! My neighbors told us that this was a dumping ground for a lot of animals befor we bought it. As much as I hate to say it, every year when college is done, there's a huge influx of abandoned animals.... Sad, especially since it's an agricultural school.

Ugh! Wish traps could be set that would just catch the humans abandoning animals. I pray I never catch anyone doing it, because I'll end up in jail after I clock the person.

I'd bail you out and throw you a thank you party!

I'd come with and party right along after we get Debs Flock out.

LOL...bless your hearts. I do carry a baseball bat in my car and would seriously knock one out of the park if I caught anyone abandoning any animal. I almost wrecked my car once when I was behind some idiot that literally tossed a kitten out of a moving car and kept going. I picked up that baby (a beautiful blue eyed Siamese) and floored it trying to catch up to that stupid human. They got away, though.

My Muscovy just cracked and ate the eggs that she was brooding there due in 9 days ...... Why did she do this?
I can't give you an answer as to why she did this but I can say how sorry I am that this happened to you and the babies. Is she a first time broody?

Very hard to know why ducks do these things, Possibly protein deficient that is just a guess, sometimes when they begin to hear peeping in the egg and it's usually after they internal pip they will freak out and do something weird like open the egg toss the duckling out of the nest or try to kill it. Why she would do it 9 days before hatch is strange. Keep an eye out though she may do it again. So by now duckling is probably pretty well formed and taking most of the shell up so she actually ate the whole duckling?

@casportpony even had this happen and any answers why?
