The Duck Thread

Well thank you, I have 3 females and 1 male duck. They are young now but eventually the hens will be laying and I will have eggs on my hands. If I check every day and they are not "broody" which means sitting on eggs trying to make babies, yes? Then I have nothing to worry about. I might let one female hatch one set. But that's it. I don't have a lake, I have a pond lol. Plus, I don't want inbreeding and I also don't want to lose too many drakes because they were run off by a dominant drake. Right now 3 hens and 1 drake is perfect. They are 7 weeks old.
I also have 3 females and 1 male. 18 weeks old now, none are laying yet. I was told they might not lay this year, possibly next spring, but I still look for eggs. I have to agree with the others, duck eggs are the best eating. Fluffy scrambled! Absolute best for cakes! Yum. Now I'm hungry. lol

I'm a bit worried. They're still very interested in foraging, but not eating much pellets. Hope it's just due to the heat.
I've noticed the same thing Deb. But I also have squirrels helping themselves to my duck feeder! But they still seem to be eating less. I thought maybe I was getting better at chasing off the squirrels (found my CO2 BB pistol! heehee) (I just scare them away with it....)

OhMyGosh...CO2 BB pistol...that sounds like something I need!

Good, it's not just my babies. They are, by the way, 3 females and 1 drake...12 weeks tomorrow so no eggs for me...yet.

Haha! Walmart, like 20 bucks! (its easier than a ball bat!)

3 to 1 seems to be a popular ratio!
