The Duck Thread

So there is a male Cayuga in my flock that has drown a mate in the past. Other than eating and drinking all it wants to do is mate, and aggressively I might add. The problem is that it picks a favorite female and constantly harasses that one! Since its other favorite died all it does is try mate with a ten week old pekin, that I'm not even positive is female. I'm ready to shoot this duck and throw it out. Unless anyone has any solutions.

Also I must add that I have a five week old male Cayuga right now too that is very friendly so the other Cayuga would not be missed. And I don't want anyone getting bad ideas about the breed it's just the one duck!

Oh do I understand your aggravation and have had just this problem and the young ducklings I had to put in a grow up pin and I understand not everyone has that opportunity or room and I take it that the other female died from over mating this problem I have also had and it came down to having a pin for my Peking mail and he stayed there for close to a year and I later got him 2 females but guess what he did with them so he lives with the geese so you might need to look for another home or more options as animals are just like people .....

I hope your Cayuga finds the right path .....

I have a question. My ducks run free all day but they have a fenced in area with a pool and their "house" well around the fence on the outside the grass is getting tall so I was wondering if it was safe to spray them with round up? My ducks keep the inside of the fenced in area pretty much grass free do I don't have to worry about the outside
