She was a ways away from the broody - I guess I should specify that the structure that the broody is in is actually the bottom of an old coop, and is 4' by 8'. The khaki I found dead at the entrance. The pekin is brooding way at the back, eight feet away. Perhaps she did kill her and did it at the mouth of the coop. I would have thought she'd have some injuries, though. Not even her feathers are messed up.
I am prepared to separate the broody and her ducklings when they hatch - the old coop and its run are actually in my new coop's run - I just left its run open to allow the birds more space, and she decided to nest in the old bottom half of the coop. I think I have some pictures so people can understand what I mean, let me see...
Excuse the construction mess, the big wire thing in the front is a run I was putting up for a different coop. The purple and white structure in the background of this picture - the bottom half of it was my old duck coop. That's where she is. When the babies hatch I'll just be closing up the old run to keep them in. For now I leave it open so she can get out and get to the yard when she's off the nest.
