The Duck Thread

I give up. I won't do this anymore. You're right that it's not funny, it's not cute, it's not clever, and it's certainly not original. I will not subject myself to this anymore.

I was just in a meeting where ducks with bbq sauce and other things came up 3 different times, and it wasn't because I brought it up. I'm really glad I work from home and this was a conference call, because I'm crying right now. I honestly don't think any of these people mean to be cruel, but they just run it into the ground and don't seem to have anything to say or ask about them if it doesn't have something to do with using them as food. I cannot, and will not, take anymore of this.

I weighed some options to eliminate this problem and decided what to do. I removed all my nice ducks pics from my company profile, I removed any mention of ducks from my interests on my profile, and I will say in any future meeting where it comes up that we don't have ducks anymore and that we rehomed them because of time constraints or something I won't have to figure out until Monday. No more duck conversations. I'm done with it. I can't take it, and I'm very, very sorry that you don't have a choice since your situation is different from mine.
Oh, Gina. I am so very sorry you were put thru that. I really am. None of those comments are ever funny and it is hurtful when people say awful things about sweet little beings you cherish.

Wow, Jade...I'm so sorry you had to deal with such massive, heartless jerks! You should never have had to remove your precious birb kids from your work profile. Boy, be happy it wasn't me in that meeting because I would have torn into those obnoxious peons! "Any of you gents have a pet rat? Welp, I bet it'd look hilarious dead in my trap at home! Oh, you have a dog? Cool, that Korean restaurant just opened up off Main street, I bet I could sell him for a hefty sum per pound of meat. Oh, you have a fish tank? Awesome, hors d'oervres on me, everybody!"

Seriously, if you don't have a direct superior or HR department to take this to, consider firmly reminding everyone that their "jokes" are horrifically tactless and are completely uncalled for. Or at the very least, if you do lie and tell everyone at work you rehomed them, tell them it's because you were too upset at their cruel teasing and gave them up so you wouldn't have to take it anymore. That oughta make 'em feel lower than dirt, as well they should!

Gina, I'm sorry you've had to tolerate such insensitive jerks! I certainly understand this approach. In general, people like that don't change easily and some go so far has hitting that "button" even harder when they know it bothers people. I've seen it happen too many times. I hope this solution does bring their remarks to an end.

There aren't specific days, but you shouldn't disturb them in the first week if you can avoid it. Gentle turning if you don't have a turner, and that's all. We candle ours once per week.

Why do I not always get notifications when people quote me!?! Yes I have a turner. Even though I am a SHAM I couldn't remember to turn them every 8 hours. I thought someone said something on the incubation thread that you shouldn't candle day 12-14. I set these eggs last Friday at 10pm so day 7 should be starting soon. Last batch was a bust so I want to try and do everything "right"

There's a preference you can set in your profile to be notified when you're quoted. You want to look to see if that's enabled.

I think you meant SAHM, not SHAM. Congratulations for being one!

I think I've heard that 12-14 thing before but can't remember the rationale behind it if there was one. There's no reason you can't candle on those specific days.

I have it checked because I get emails saying I was quoted or received an ovation, I got 4 earlier. No rhyme or reason why I dont. Its very sporadic.

Yes stupid auto correct! And idk if congratulations are in order! I dont have little ones so I am stuck in the movie Groundhog Day!

I think it was something about lights shining and some stage of development. Should I candle tonight? 10pm starts day 7
